Question: PTO DIrectory

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on software that we can use to create our student directory. We're looking for something to use when we export the data from PTOManager.

A lot of schools use Microsoft Publisher, which is a fairly inexpensive program for small graphic design projects. If your project is simple enough -- primarily a list of names and contact info with a few pieces of art added, you might also be able to do it in Word or another word processing program.

Our school uses a free google site and that is connected to google docs. You can actually create forms in google docs that will collect the directory information and store it in xls format.

Hello. I have put together a website with the intention of having it used to make school directories available online. But a side benefit of it is that after all teacher/household/student data is loaded via imports from CSV (or Excel) files, it can then be retrieved in a well formatted PDF. I researched a bunch of different Student Directory software applications and decided Members and More (http://www.membersandmore.com) was the one that best fit my needs. I was able to import an excel file into its database. The customer service was amazing, they walked me through everything and they even customized some of the layout so I could add additional fields. I just needed a print version of the directory, but they also have an online version. I definitely recommend checking them out, it saved me a lot of work.

Our elementary school went through the process this year of publishing both a printed and online school directory. As the directory administrator, I evaluated a few different software offerings and settled upon one offered by Directory Burst (http://www.directoryburst.com). Directory Burst allows you to import Excel or CSV files to populate your directory. And your directory is immediately available in a secure online and printed format. So far, it has been working great!

Perhaps you might consider having your directory available on parents mobile phones. There are a number of good companies that can provide this. It's really the "green" solution and this way directories don't get lost as the school year progresses.
