Keep it low key. Give parents an opportunity to connect with each other rather than listening to a pitch about the PTO. Use nametags, and suggest that parents include the names and grades of their children so they can connect with parents of children in the same grades or classes. Have PTO volunteer information and contact information on hand in a visible location, but don't beat people over the head with it. Be sure to greet people, thank them for coming, and mention the PTO and how you welcome everyone who wants to help. Point out the information table. If you have a sponsor, don't forget to thank the sponsor both with a prominent sign and with an announcement. Most of all, have fun -- that will provide a good advertisement for your group.
