Question: Help finding donations

I work for Communities In Schools For Arizona. I work at a middle school in Phoenix. We are having a huge project coming up on April 9th, 2011 from 9am to 1pm. I am trying to find a company that would donate drinks, soda, water, gateraide, etc? Can anyone help me out?? Thanks, Jeanne Johnson

Hi Jeanne -- I can't suggest a specific company (a local grocery chain, maybe?), but when you approach a business, be sure to tell them what they get out of it. Will you include their logo on flyers and letters? Will you have a poster or banner at the event thanking them for the donation? Will you thank them over the microphone at the event? Will you list them as a sponsor in all pre- and post-event press releases, etc.? Companies are more willing to donate if you can tell them that you have a plan that will give them positive exposure in exchange for their good deed.

One more thing. If you do get a donation from a company, be sure to write them a thank you letter that they can post in a public place. And if you really want to make sure they'll be willing to help out again, have the kids write thank you letters. That can be very powerful.
