Question: rezoning ideas

Our district is rezoning, and we are looking for ways to make the transition to a new school in the same district easier for the children and the parents. We are also looking for ways to have more collaboration amongst the four elementary schools so that when the children enter the 6th grade they are a little more familiar with each other.

Re-zoning brings change and that can cause students and parents some anxiety. The good news is this can also be an opportunity to bring positive changes to the community. Perhaps you could host a meet-and-greet or other social event to help families make new connections. We have an article on managing the stress of a school merger that could be useful to you. This article takes a look at how one school district helped families with the stress of three schools merging. Also, we have another story that could be an interesting read for you. It takes a look at how one parent group turned a re-zoning experience into a plus. One other thing that could be helpful - Have you tried our get-involved kit ? It requires you to register on the site, but it is a free download that has lots of good information about reaching out to families and helping them feel more part of a community. Hope this helps and good luck!
