Keeping in mind that different groups do define these roles with their unique spins, here are some general guidelines: The president's role is to meet with the board and set the direction for the group. She chairs general meetings and board meetings, and oversees the work of the group. The vice president does more day-to-day operations and assists the president as needed. This article on a vice president's role should help. The treasurer's roleis more clearly defined as they are charged with managing the financials, budget and checkbook. Lastly, the secretary handles correspondence and typically is responsible for taking meeting minutes and publishing those minutes.

If your group has bylaws, get a copy and read them. Ours state the duties of each position and the rest is pretty much fleshed out by the personality of the individual who takes the positions. Some do more, some do less.
