when changing from pta to pto, can the current board members stay on or should we have a new election?
Advice from PTO Today
Rose C writes: Typically a "brand-new'' PTO would hold elections and often the existing officers from the "old" PTA would run and be elected. You might say it is a formality, but it helps to have this process. There could be a parent interested in getting involved in the group and it's a good idea to give those parents an opportunity to run for election of the new group. It shows that the group is open and welcoming.
We have a great article on changing from a PTA to a PTO that covers a number of issues relating to this switch that you might find helpful. Good luck!
