Question: does a parent have to be apart of the same school district to be apart of the pto?

My child's real mother who rarely partakes in taking care of her wants to join the pto which I'm already apart of for my step child. Someone told me that since she lives in a different school district she can't attend. I so hope this is true!!

Depends on the bylaws of the organization. For example, some restrict membership to parents and guardians, some have them open to pretty much anyone. I can't say I have ever seen any that have a residency requirement, though. I can think of several situations where one parent might live outside the school district; I think a PTO might be hard pressed to prohibit a parent becoming a member just because of where they live.
