When you’re on the PTO, you know what it’s like to “bump” into an unsuspecting parent at the grocery store. Suddenly, she finds that box of cereal super-interesting and worth a closer look. Heck, some dads will even grow a full-on beard to dupe PTO leaders who lurk in the bleachers at weekend baseball games. What are they so afraid of, anyway?!

Unfortunately, getting involved is a huge ask for some folks; they don’t realize that just a few hours of their time can make a world of a difference within the school community. But unless you keep asking around at the park, scouring the lines at the store, and haunting the carpool pickup line, you’ll never find those gems who make all the effort worthwhile.

How many of these reactions have you gotten?

1. The parent who sees you and your clipboard coming from a mile away.

2. The parent who will only volunteer if her friends will, too.
