AC Rock - chicago area

7 Years, 10 Months ago

We're looking at AC Rock (an accapella group) out of Chicago.

I saw old posts that they were great. I e-mailed for their CD and they're fabulous. I'm looking for recent feedback. Thanks!

I went on a "spy mission" for our School to check out AC Rock. They were at a Public Library in the next town to celebrate the end of their successful summer reading program.

I found out I have been mis-pronouncing their name it is actually "ACK-Rock" or as they jokingly said A - Crock. Here is their web site: http://www.acrock.com/

These four guys are AMAZING!! What they can do with their voices makes them sound like a full band. The only equipment they bring are speakers, a drum machine and an amplifier system. They are based out of Chicago and have performed for the Chicago Bulls, Navy Pier festivals, etc. They also do school shows.

They opened their show with the "Drew Carey Theme Song" - Cleveland Rocks (but changed the words to "Reading Rocks"). They explained how cool libraries are as you can probably find a book on ANYTHING.

Each member explained what kind of books they liked the best and then had a few songs that fit into that category.

One guy liked cars, so they did car songs (Bus Stop, Baby you can drive my car, Deuce coupe, 409, etc). One guy liked history and explained that Ac-Rock is actually a Do-Wop group and explained what life was like in 1954 (TV had only 3 channels, no cable, no computer). One guy asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grow up and said the Library would be a great place to research a career, then they launched into the Do-Wop song "Get a job". They also explained what acapella means and the ancient history of how acapella started.

In short, the show was EXCELLENT. The kids were revved up after the show. We bought 2 CD's. They charged $15 each, but $5 of the sale went back to the Library. We listened to the CD's on the ride home and the kids were even MORE charged up!

I strongly recommend AC-Rock for any school programs or festivals.
