Setting up Assemblies?

4 Years, 9 Months ago

In your school who sets up the assemblies the teachers or the PTO?
The conflict I'm having is I am the new PTO pres and several parents have mentioned that they would like to see other musicians than the ones we normally get. I looked into the ones we have been getting and we have had them to the school for the past 5 years at least. With out music budget cut I would like to get different ones but don't want to step on anyones toes. But if the pto is paying for it I think we should have a say normally the teachers get them. But I think its because the other pto leaders didnt know where to go or look for other entertainers. Not that I do either but I am willing to look into it just for a variety for the kids.
Any suggestions on how to handle and where to go for musical performances would be appreciated?

We set aside a budget for performances and I think this stepped on some toes in the beginning, but I have heard so many good comments about the new entertainment this year. Most school get slammed with ads for school performers, so it's not like they are really hard to find unless you are looking for something specific. If you are wanting musical performances, how about a local university? Ours will do performances that fit their students schedules just for a nice letter that they can use when applying for scholarships and such.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
