can a PTO take away leadership roles from a member

We have a member of our PTO that has abused her leadership roles on several different occasions and in very very uncomfortable ways. This has been a long time coming, but as PTO president I'm wondering if there is anyway to take away leadership roles from one specific person. We have gone with the traditional route several times, by talking reasonably, bringing in the principals and so on. I acknowledge that this seems harsh, but our PTO has lost several members and those that remain, won't be on committees with her and won't attend meetings anymore because of all of the nonsense that she brings with her. Any suggestions or similar experiences and how you handled it would be appreciated.

Is this person a board member or is she just a committee chair? Removing a board member can be done, but there is a process. Check your by-laws for guidance and pick up a copy of Robert's Rules of Order for additional details on removing a board member.

If she is just a committee chair, it's a far simpler process: She is informed that she will no longer have responsibility for "x" and a replacement chair is assigned.

Can you give more guidance on removing a board member? Our by-laws don't specifically address this issue and I don't currently have a copy of Robert's Rules, but if I know where to look for it, I can try to find a recent copy to look up the info. I just need to know where to look.
