 Should a Principal be a PTO's faculty adviser or would that be a conflict of interest?

I would say whether you want your principal there or not they will oversee your group! I am not seeing it as a conflict of interest as very seldom will you find any group or committee in a school that they do not have a part with. Having that realtionship can break or make you...so embrace it! Truth is I wouldnt want it any other way, that whole home school community piece!

Whats a faculty advisor?

Usually our principal has been a board member and the teachers have 1 or 2 representatives that attend board mtgs.

Rachel,

I would say that the Principal being the faculty advisor would be fine as long as it does not prevent the rest of the staff from being able to attend the meetings, being provided information about what the PTO is doing, etc.

Regards,

I would want the Principal in addition to the teachers. The purpose of the teachers being the faculty advisors or representatives is that they bring the issues, concerns or questions from the staff to the PTO. If the Principal does not agree 100% who's to say the issue is being raised! Encourage your Principal to attend as the Administrator, but bringing a teacher as the faculty representative.
