Walk a thon

We're planning a walk a thon this spring to raise money for our playground. There are other walks in town...so I'd like ideas about how we can make this walk unique and get faculty, parents, students and the community involved. Has anyone gotten the gym teachers involved and promoted it as "healthy" families?

We had incentive gifts for our teachers and classroom contest.
The teacher who walked the most laps won a $250 gift basket filled with stuff for the class and some personal stuff.
Also the class who brougth in the most $ and the class with the highest aveg. of laps won a trips to the movies.
Sad to say our school no longer has a gym teacher, but we did ask local gyms to sponsor.
We also offered level prizes and had local business sponsor our t'shirts. (One for each child and teacher) We put their names ont he back and we raised enough to cover all our cost for two schools. Each school made over $10,000 in a town of a little over 10,000, with a lot of overlapping families we did very well.

Good luck, I hope this helped.
