I am looking for advice on how to write an article for the paper. I have been informed if it is a human interest article/ad for a fundraising event they will print it for us for free. So here is the scoop:

We are hosting the Harlem Wizards in November. The proceeds are going to build a safer smaller playground for the younger children of the school district and the community. So we really need to make some good amount of money from this event. Not to mention we just found out that the hotel is going to run us over 400 dollars for them for one night.

I have never written an article in my life. And this is for the public not just my teacher back when i was in school. I am panicing.

What you are looking to write is a "press release". You may want to google "How to write a....." and get some pointers that way. Or, because you've not done this before and because it's such an important event for your school, you may want to see if there is a parent in the school that has a marketing, public and/or media relations background who would be willing to help you with the release as well as (possibly) come up with a promotional outline for the PTO to maximize the potential success of this event.

If you are stumped on how to word things, etc. you could use Google's advanced search technique: news archive search on something like PTO event or PTO basketball fundraiser, etc. and that way you check out how other articles have been worded.
