Classroom guests and inexpensive/free field trips

I volunteer at a headstart program that requires a certain amount of fund matching in order to retain the funding for the following year. The matching funds can be in the form of volunteer hours or donations of items or of course money. I am currently trying to come up with some guests to share talents with the kids. Any ideas. If the field trip is VERY inexpensive or free we could do that or they could come to our class.

Over the past year, I have researched local opportunities for the kids in our area. I didn't know anything, so I just started making calls. Each place I called had another place that I could try to round up free education.

Some places that I contacted: wildlife refuge, Dept. of Fish and Game, museums, science center, botanical gardens, sheriff's office, and fire dept.

Devote 30 minutes and try to make as many calls as possible to find a free in-classroom field trip!

Good Luck.
