End of The Year Stories - 2001

We've all spent the year adhering to agendas, balancing priorities, keeping simultaneous projects on track, smoothing ruffled feathers, and using this forum as a pretty serious resource. Anyone else ready for a bit of frivolity? Let’s swap some silly, funny, worst case, “can you believe she said...” PTO stories. Log in with a unregistered ID if you don’t want to be recognized. Everyone should have at least ONE to share!

Good topic. Did you ever just want to bang your head against the wall? Comments I won't forget:

---------------------------
Treasurer after closing of $38,000 fundraiser: "I really don't feel like sticking around. I'll just take all this home and count it in my spare time."

{No, he didn't.)

----------------------------
"We're volunteers - we don't have to follow the rules."

---------------------------

"Well I know xyz {the chairperson] never did anything and dropped out 3 days before the carnival, but that's no reason for her to take over like that."

----------------------------

We had a mother involved in a custody fight request copies (or lack thereof) of the father's PTO memberhsip form as part of the evidence of lack of parental involvement on his part. Messy...

During a process that required background checks on all our board members, I had to collect personal information for each and discovered that one of our committee chairs
1) doesn't have a social security number (and, I suspect, doesn't appreciate the government's issuance of them)

2) thinks she has a driver's license -maybe, but not in this state (She's been here for YEARS)

3) her actual first and last name are not the same names she uses and that we all know her by.

No she's not a fugitive, just part of a rather avant-garde family, and happily gave me all the alternative information so they could track her both ways. The whole thing was just way more than I wanted to know about another family's personal life.

Fun topic!
I recently went thru our end of year surveys & one parent commented that it was a shame that she always saw the same faces helping at events. At the bottom of the form was a line asking if they wanted to help plan an event for next year (most people left it blank...). This person filled in a big "NO"!
Go figure....

My favorite line to the school's staff
"And were is it in the volunteer contract? I know I signed four but come on!"

I am also amamzed how the same question can be asked by one parent but in SO MANY different ways and each form of their question gets the SAME answer and before we know it 20 minutes is gone and this parent is STILL not happy!

Also our former Prez was REALLY good at quoting by-laws that we don't have! As the Secretary, I kept the by-laws up to date and know them to heart! So much fun!

Looking forward to my Presidency. What a great adventure!
