Our softball team did a candy bar fundraising and and also a chore day. For the chore day we "advertised" around town that the girls would do yard chores or babysitting for $25 an hour on a specific day. It was a huge success - pure profit. Raised close to $3,000! Our senior class usually does magazine sales and lots of small fundraisers.

I have used a compnay called Profit Potentials.
Its Selling Fresh Cut Holiday Greenery. It works well because people are very generous around the Holidays and they get a beautiful Christmas Wreath or garland, or swag to decorate their house. Works Great.

another great idea is to hold a consignment auction!
Your group would collect a certain % of items people brought in to sell, this works great in small communities. We live in a small town with lots of farmers, several of them brought in older equip, lawn tractors, and more and we made HUGE profit and the customers made $ as well. Several of them ended up donating their entire amount to us!

When I was in high school one of our biggest fundraisers for scouting was painting house numbers on curbs. Even if the address is posted on the house itself, it's still very beneficial to have it on the curb of your driveway, both for visitors and for emergency personnel.
Around here, I've never seen that done as a fundraiser. Various professionals (mostly folks that do roofing or other construction-related) sometimes leave a flyer. We've been in this house for 10 years and I've had a flyer left on my door once, maybe twice.
I'm surprised it's not done more often. All you need is good quality outdoor paint, number templates, and some willing workers. I'd much rather pay a school group - even to refresh numbers that are still readable.
I did take advantage of the last professional who left a flyer. He left a flyer in advance, then for all those on the block who wanted it, he painted the background block (white or black, as requested), then came back down the block and painted the numbers. He had heavy duty cardboard templates, but also winged in some. Like I saw him use the edge of the 4 for a 1. But he had paint pens that looked like big magic markers. I hadn't see those before. I bet he spent maybe 5 minutes at each address and charged $20.

Our eighth grade, That's as high as our Christian school goes, did a chili supper charging $4 for a bowl on the same night as our school had an Association meeting-which includes all voting members. They sold out and people went hungry.
