Snack shack

I had this same thought about the snacks at our soccer concession stand. It just didn't seem right to reward all that excellent physical activity with junk food! So I did some research and wrote about it in my blog (search my blog onesweetwriter for a post in Nov 2013 about healthy snacks) I've gotten a lot of great info from Action for Healthy Kids on healthy snacks, too. Keep up the good work!

(I keep trying to login but I'm having some trouble…my name is Elizabeth and I'm in Pittsburgh, PA).

Check out Sam's Club, they have a new snack pack of more organic (no preservatives) variety pack in their snack aisle. It includes chocolate chip cookies, graham sticks and cheese crackers (like cheese-its). They are VERY good and better than the originals with all the preservatives and unhealthy ingredients.

We are required by the district to incorporate more healthy options in to all of our concession stand type events. Some of the things we offer that are a little healthier and still 'kid-friendly' are pickles, pudding cups, applesauce/fruit cups, peanut butter sandwich crackers, and fruit snacks. When we are shopping, we try to stick to the healthy (no sugar sugar, natural ingred., etc) versions of these snacks. As for the chips, Sun Chips and baked chips options are healthier.

Our PTO has a after school snack shack they try and have some healthy snacks. This next year it will be taken over by a new group of parents as it is every year because it is a 5th grade fundraiser we would like to see more healthy afterschool snacks sold we have some such as popcorn & granola bars, but there is about three types of candy and cookies and chips, hot Cheetos and beef sticks, rice crispy treats, Capri suns and bottles water just to much junk any healthy Ideas out there? however I do understand we do need to bring the kids in and not scare them away but do we really need to have that much junk.... We are going to incorporated some fruit but any other fun suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!
