Professional Fun Run companies

Our school had run our own Fun Run for 17 years now. It really is not hard to do. This year the committee crated a Candy Land themed course. We work with the gym teachers too. They have the kids run the course (undecorated) two weeks before the race.

It is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Here is the info we sent home this year:

The 2015 WES PTO Fun Run is going to be SWEET!
The course theme for this year will be “Candy Land”.

Who’s getting SLIMED?
This year the Fun Run Committee made some FUN changes to the prize levels.
Any panda bear student that raises $101 or more will get a chance to participate in our SLIME assembly in some way. After the Fun Run is over, panda bear students that have reached these levels will receive a permission slip that must be signed by a parent or guardian in order to participate in the assembly. We will also share the date of the Slime Assembly with you. We hope to reach our $10,000 goal so that we can see our principal, Ms. Warner, get SLIMED! As always if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
Thank you for supporting your WES PTO.
$10 - $24 in donations earns you a water bottle!
$25 - $50 in donations earns you a Fun Run T-shirt!
$51 - $100 in donations earns a package prize- including water bottle, t-shirt, and PTO Panda Bucks!
*$101 - $125 donation earns you Slime Maker status! You will get to help the PTO make the slime to be used to slime teachers, faculty, and/or a fellow Panda Bear student who reaches the prize level of “Slimed”!
*$126 - $199 in donations earns you “Slime” status! You will get to slime a teacher, faculty member or fellow Panda Bear!
*$200 or more in donations earns you Getting Slimed status!
*This level of participation includes a water bottle, Fun Run t-shirt and PTO bucks.
All participants will earn a popsicle following the Fun Run!
If everyone in your Homeroom class turns in their pledge envelope, your class will earn lunch with a VIP! ANY dollar amount, every dollar counts.
PTO Bucks: These bucks are DIFFERENT than Panda bucks. PTO bucks will be able to be used at any PTO event or for Spirit wear orders and will have a one-dollar value. In addition, they can be used for FREE ice cream in the cafeteria.

A long Boosterthon forum thread was closed down more than 4 years ago.

But with pre-approval from the mod, updates are to be permitted here so long as we all don't get provocative.

The most recent news is that a PTO in Atlanta is poised to lose $23,990 in donated funds because the fun run company they used is now declaring bankruptcy. Once the company pays their creditors what they can, there's likely nothing left of the fun run donations submitted via the company's web site.

News coverage: www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/local-scho...-donated-fund/npqqW/

The other two fun run companies in the U.S. are Booster Enterprises (Boosterthon) and Apex. They're both privately-held companies.

Maybe others can offer guidance on how to avoid this risk....?
