How many years can a person be President

17 years 1 week ago #129803 by my3strongtikes
Our bylaws say we can serve more than two terms if you get a 2/3 majority vote. We did this because there are many parents who would do a great job even though it would be their 3rd or 4th year but if you feel they arent doing their job they wouldnt get voted in if they didnt get enough votes.
Also we are only a K-2 school so eventually they run out of kids in that particular school before moving on and you have to have a child in the school.
Our board was the same as last year and now this year. But this year I am rerunning for pres 3rd year but the other positions will be different.
There alot of pros and cons to how you look at it.
Good Luck

Well, you really already have your answer. If the bylaws have a two term limit then she simply can't run for another year. She may try to use the excuse that nobody else wanted it so she had to stay on. Maybe she needs help recruiting candidates. Do you use a Nominations Committee? If so, I'd be sure to let them know that they cannot consider the current president and need to come up with other choices. Either that or have the members vote on a bylaws revision.

I was PTO President for 2yrs....as stated by our Bylaws. The next person to take over has done it for three and word is she may be going for number 4. I feel it isnt fair. People say that she has a hard time getting another to take the position but I am so fed up that I am done with PTO. I feel she is a glory hog because of the success we have had with our PTO. I think it is important to get others involved and for them to at least try .

Two years is our limit here, also. I may run into that problem next year. I've done a year and a half as president, but this is my first ELECTED year as president, as i was appointed by the principal due to the total fallout of the previous board. So, I may look into amending the bylaws to state that there should be a 2 year limit, unless there is no desire by anyone to take over the position. Our bylaws don't address that scenario, yet.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

There are no limits stated in our bylaws. The position of president is the hardest to fill, that's why I'm in my second year. I work really hard and no one wants the responsibility. I'll probably be in office for 3 more years because that's when my son graduates from fifth grade.

As the others mentioned it all depends on what your bylaws say.

In our school you can hold the position for 2 years. The only way you can continue in the position is if no one else wants the job. But if anyone runs for the position you cannot run against them once you have served 2 years. You may however, go into another position.
