I have a question concerning getting a PTO Credit Card, I have contacted 2 banks here in our town and they have both said that the PTO can not have a credit card due to it not being a business, has anyone ran into this problem before or do you have any suggestions to help out.

Instead of a credit card, consider a Visa debit card tied to the PTO's checking account.

Our elementary PTO had a debit card tied to the checking account and had no problem getting one-in fact, it was the bank personnel's idea. Now I will say that the group is a recognized 510c3 organization, so maybe that was the difference.

Our PTO president and treasurer also have card linked to the checking account. It makes it so much easier. I don't know if I would be in favor of an acutal credit card that might be opening a can of worms.

We also have a debit card tied to our checking account. We love it! Now I don't have to hunt down the treasurer to ask for a check.

We also have a debit card tied to our checking account, and it makes it much easier for me to purchase things when I'm out shopping on weekends and find a great buy that we can use for PTO. I'm not trying to track down the treasurer to get a check and then go back to the store. We do have a small PTO so my board gives me the okay on purchases very easily -- they know I'm not going to go out and buy everything we stay on budget.
