How many board members do you have?

Yes, we do. All board seats are only a one year term. Elected board members can only serve two consecutive years in the same office.
While I like the two year term because I feel like the first year you are just getting your feet wet. But the one year term is a lot less pressure and so you might get parents to step up when needed.

Hi Mommy CBN,

Thanks for posting. Very helpful! Do you have term limits in your bylaws?

When we had to rewrite our Bylaws last school year the Executive Board was something we took a lot of time on.

We have four elected board members: President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary

Then we have 4 Standing Committee Chairs (these positions are appointed by the incoming president) Volunteer Coordinator, Communications, Fundraising, and Community/School Events

The Principal also serves on The Board so that is total of 9 members

The Board this year made it a standing rule that a teacher rep could attend all our meetings and would be on all e-mails but she did NOT have voting rights.

I would definitely look at your bylaws and if you want to amend them I would start working on that very soon so they can be in affect by the time elections are held.

Hi there!
Did you check the bylaws for your group to see what is said about officers? It would make sense to have a VP position. If that's not included in the bylaws, you'd probably want to have that amended. It's very common to see groups with the four main positions: President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary. Beyond that, you have flexibility and it really depends on what suits your group and community. You can further amend your bylaws to include additional board positions. Often, other jobs to oversee fundraising or volunteer recruitment can be handled by committee chairs.

The by-laws for the elementary school PTO had pres, two VPs, sec, treas as officers, and a number of committee chair positions that could be considered executive board. However, in the 5 years I was there, we usually only had those 5 officers. The first year, there was also an enrichment coordinator (field trips and in-school programs), but when that person stepped down, one of the VPs picked up that duty.

In the middle school PTO, we have only 4 officers, and we struggle to keep those positions filled.

Hello all! I was wondering what positions everyone had on their executive board. This is my first year as President so I didn't rock the boat with too many changes. However, I will be losing 3 people due to moving on to middle school. Currently, we have roles as President, Treasurer, Secretary, Fundraising, Membership, and Volunteer/Planning coordinator. I would love to add a Vice President, second fundraising, and a school representative.

What rolls does your executive board consist of? Any ideas for the new year?
