tax exempt status

I've got a question for everyone and I hope I don't sound too dumb. I'm the president of our elementary school PTA and the company we're doing our fundraising with has asked us for our tax exempt form. I got the form from our principal (the same form we've used in the past). Well, the company says it's not the correct form, that this form has our federal id# on it not the state # and that the PTA should have their own. If we do, we don't know anything about it. How do we go about finding out if our PTA has their own tax exempt number (diffrent from schools) and if we don't how do we go about getting one?

Thanks everyone!

Nevermind everyone, after looking through piles of paperwork we have found our tax exempt number.

Thanks though.
