PTO Dues

Can the PTO board for this year, change the dues for next years membership or does it have to be next years new board to change the due fee. According to By-Laws it states: Dues are set
annualy by the electred Board of Directors. I take that as a parent that I can come in and make a motion and the board of directors can vote on this issue. I am a PTO member at the school.

It sounds like it would be fine according to your by-laws, but I would strongly urge you to wait until the next Board Members are in office. Our Membership Drive is at the beginning of each school year and our new board will meet during the summer, so at that time they can decide to change the membership fee. It only seems right to allow the new board to decide since there are only a few months of school left. As a parent and PTO member, you can certainly at anytime discuss the membership fee, but I know our Board would table it until the new board takes over.

PTOMember, Just curious, are you asking to lower it or raise the membership fees? I am wondering how much dues they are asking for, and what they use those funds for directly. Is it start up for the year? Going to a particular purchase for the school or a certain goal? Again, just curious. I am thinking of suggesting changing how we do membership next year and could you some objective views.

I don't want to lower or raise the price. I just thought that it's easier if there's wasn't a membership fee this way it's 100% membership. I worked on the membership drive this past year and saw all of the hard work that went into it and only 50 families joined from 700 students. Thanks for your help. I am probably going to wait until the next years board and say something.
