Come on, guys! I have been in education for over 15 years and have supervised more PTO meetings as a teacher and principal than I can count! I attended a PTA meeting one time and the installation of officers was really cool. Each position was likened to a different seed; I don't want to take time to explain it here. I just thought that someone out there might have some other creative idea for an otherwise mundane task.

Tim,

Haha! Not dunderheads but rather more like I was before I had to dig into all this, ignorant of what needs to be done, mostly because the out going people didnt document anything and forgot to tell you about it! Anyway that's how I see most of the questions here. I also take the time to research much of what I post, hopefully with some humor behind it (Yea ok so some of the jokes are falling flat, my day job is not a comedian and I refuse to give it up until I get my just laughs).

Allow me to add I am also learning a lot through this board, for one thing it is making me look things up that I never thought to and refreshing my pee brain on things I knew but forgot!

This organization is a unique group of PTO Presidents, Principals, and teacher representatives that has formed a county-wide PTO to be an advisory council to our Superintendent and offer support to our School Board members, along with many other responsibilities. It is a whole new idea for our region. I would like a unique way to install the officers, which have already been elected. You are correct--I would like to use some kind of neat theme or activity that would be more meaningful than the usual installation ceremony that can be very boring.

Hi DaveP --

Hate to be correcting you again, but I think shumphrey was referring to "installation ceremonies". Like with a theme or a particular reading or the like.

Of course I could be wrong, but it seems that your (Dave's) assumption in most cases is that PTO leaders are dunderheads. Experience has taught me to assume otherwise.

Yea hold an election!

Make sure the membership knows you need officers, the positions and the terms of office. Then have a filing deadline date. Hold an election sometme after that - if only one person is running for a post then they get it - if more than one then count the ballots and the winner gets the spot.

Don't you have bylaws or a charter that covers this or are you starting a new PTO??

If you are starting a new one get volunteers to form a foundation group! Create the organization including its by laws and election proceedure! Do not go about doing the activities like fund raising, donations, etc just build the organization.

Hope this helps
