Any ideas for a "60's carnival"

Our Elementary school is going to close due to budget cuts and we want this to be an extra special event for the kids. Thanks, amy

Ok this was before my time so I may have my eras mixed up. I am thinking that alot of the 60's bled into the 70's.

Was tie dye in the 60's? Apparently it is easy to do. I am sure someone on here can tell you or you can do a quick search if you don't already know. You might could get some tee's donated from a Wal-mart or something. Or you can even ask parents to donate.

You could have a moon room. Do you know anyone that has one of those constellation theaters? You could also add a little history about how JFK wanted to put people on the moon and by the end of the 60's bam there they were. You could even dress your volunteers in moon gear.

Do you have any cosmotologist or hair lovers? You could sit up a booth for the girls and have them to get their hair and make up done 60's style.

I am sure you will get alot of good ideas. There are some really creative posters on here.

We do tye dyes each year during our Field Day activities. Each student brings their own white T-shirt (you may bring more than one shirt, you may bring more than one size). One of our 6th grade classes does the tye dye booth.

Face painting was HUGE in the 60's (just look at any footage of Woodstock or any Grateful Dead concert).

An old time picture might be fun. You know, the kind that is painted on wood with holes for the face and hands? Anyone can put their face and hands in from the back and it looks like they are wearing the outfit? Paint some really hippie dippie guy in striped jeans, an open shirt, a peace sign around his neck and put the gal pal in a mini skirt and platform heels.

Things that were 'in' in the 60's would be love beads, blacklights, posters, candles, incense, face painting, the clothes of course, protest marches, free love (wouldn't advertise this for an elementary school... might bring up too many questions...lol...), San Francisco, sit-ins and protests, and OMG, so much more. It was a wonderful time to be young!

Good Luck!

We offered "Retro Room" as part of a carnival one time. We had parents bring in their board games from childhood. It was a lot of fun. The kids enjoyed Rock'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Marble Head, Mystery Date, etc.

You could make macrame bracelets. There are a bunch of retro candies available now that are a blast from the past. You can do musical chairs or a cake walk with 60's music.

We had a Peace of the 60's carnival 2 years ago and we did the tye die but we had a bead room. Kids made bead everything. We also asked them to come dressed in 60's attire and they got free tickets up to $5.00. We also did fun face painting and painted alot of peace signs.
