Hey everyone! Our board is considering doing a craft night with a Christmas theme. We would like to offer this free. Does anyone have any cute ideas for ornaments (inexpensive) that we could have the children make to take home?

In the past I have went to Hobby Lobby (or your local craft store) and purchased the big clear plastic ornament balls for less than a dollar each. I then bought white, red, green, black craft paint and had the kids place their right hand in the white paint and then onto the ornament ball. The palm of the handprint will be the 'snow' and should be at the bottom of the ball, and coming up from there are the fingers that will be the 'snowmen'. You can use the red, green, and black to decorate by adding the eyes, top hat and buttons with black paint; the red & green to make different colored scarves around their neck and then I used gold glitter paint to make a carrot nose. They look SO cute when they are done!!

"Oriental Trading" is a great place to get do-it-yourself craft kits. They carry lots of the foam put-together type crafts. I use those for our girl scouts. I believe their website is Party supplies, crafts, party decorations, toys: Oriental Trading. They have many different types of catalogs available. Have fun!

If your group is registered with the Box Tops for Education website you can go on there shopping link and order through them at Oriental Trading. Your school gets a percentage of the total purchase price. There are many other stores too that you can get percentages back from with out spending any more than you would have in the first place. This is a great way to help recoop some of the cost for your event.
