Who would have thought the old goose had her own day? I learned about this from my Children's lit class. My PTO mind started rolling. But alas it is a busy time of year. This week our school is celebrating "Relay for Life." Maybe next year we can celebrate. I think it would be neat to dress as your favorite Mother Goose Character and have readers to come in, especially at the pre-k level. Do any of you celebrate?

I've been babysitting a 5-year-old who had never heard of Mother Goose, but the child knows all about Spongebob.

I have some cheapy ones, they are really short. I tried to get them when my boys were little and realized I could only recite half of a rhyme. LOL! I called my Dad before I found my books the other day and ask him how "Little Boy Blue" went. Isn't that awful? I started with my boys when they were really young. I read to them while I was preggy. Most of the rhymes I learned was with my tv-less grandmother who knew a thousand poems, rhymes, and stories. She put the love of literature in me I guess. By the time my oldest son was walking (he walked a little late) he knew when to clap his hands at B-I-N-G-O and he would would make a crying sound when you ask if we should wake "Little Boy Blue." My youngest was just about like that. These are boys that would not potty train until they were three! I just think stories and songs and such are so important to young children. Maybe I go a little over board.

My oldest is a tv freak, but I've always monitored what they watch. Now they just here all about The Blue Comedy tour and all kinds of good stuff at school. Never thought I'd miss that big purple dinosaur.

By the way, I am not supposed to tell the potty training stories anymore. Ha Ha.

My grandma was cool. The reason I cry so much at "Little House on the Prairie" is because I think she could have been Laura.

The pediatrician is the reason my youngest started going to the potty. Here he was telling the dr. about dinosaurs and fishing trips. He was very articulate. When he was 2 he convinced the Story Time lady at the library that we went to the Smokey Mts. and saw a caged bear. So we pretty much felt like failures that we couldn't get him trained. We tried every old wives tale and any other advice people gave us. The dr. really questioned us on why this kid was still in diapers. So he looked at him told him he was a big boy and he needed to go to the potty for mom and dad. From the time we got home on he never wanted to put a pull up on again. Few accidents too. It was amazing and the dr. is our hero. We could also see him toting his diaper bag to kindergarten. I don't know why kids are so hard to train anymore. I guess because diapers are so comfortable now.
