Internet Security for Kids

6 Years, 9 Months ago

Like many kids their age mine spend lots of time on the computer. The younger one does interactive games, older one instant-messages.

I'm feeling a need to start the summer with them taking an internet safety refresher. (Despite the fact that - of course - they know it all and don't need additional informaiton! )

Any sites or tools that some of you would care to share?

I'll start with one. I like the stuff on www.netsmartz.org/

They have it geared for different age levels. I'm definitely going to have my daughter watch the "Tracking Teresa" video that explains how much personal information can be gleaned from chat rooms and message boards.

Thank you for the wonderful link. AOL has great parental controls on it but I had to watch that vid just to see myself. My son, age 8 and my nephews, ages 8, 10, 13, and 16 can only access the internet through the screen name I set up for them with these parental controls. No chats are allowed and even the game sites are very restricted. My 16 year old can't even check his e-mail on that name. I let him use my s/n while I am sitting in the room with him. You can never be too safe, especially after seeing that video. Thanks again!
