Hi Rebecca,
Have you volunteered to organize the Reading Night? Perhaps your PTO leaders fell overwhelmed with the activities they already organize. They may like your idea but not the idea of planning another activity! Order the kit from PTO today and go for it!

Thanks, Sunny, for jumping in! I like the advice of going for it.

Rebecca here is a link to our Family Reading Night Group page where you'll find some good ideas and a link to our free kit.

For ours, we were set for December 16th, today - but the snow has begun! So we are moving it to next year, during . Like most of our events - this is a contest with the students to see who can get the most parents to attend - we want and need our parents to be present!

We have 2 confirmed guest readers, and our model will include several smaller audiences. In this model, we have a general opening, and then our audience breaks out into smaller groups that rotate to the guest readers and the activities.

Our estimated time slot is ninety minutes, and this is perfect for a Family Reading Night. If we need extra time, we can stretch it to two hours. Any longer will keep families out too late, especially on a school night. We will need to use the auditorium for a book swap to help parents and students clear out older/gently used books, to make space for new ones over the holiday.

Room 1 – PS-K
Room 2 - 1-3
Room 3 – 4 and 5
Room 4 – 6 - 8

We will also have fun events for our student readers to participate in:

JUMPING FOR POETRY
CHARADES BY THE BOOK

Sounds like you have a great night planned. Glad you were able to use some ideas from our Family Reading Night kit. We'd love to see photos of your event when it happens. It would be great if you could upload them to our Family Movie Night group page.
