Thought I'd bump this discussion since it's that time of year...

Would love to hear what your plans are for teacher appreciation this year!

What does every one else do for teacher gifts for the Holidays? One parent had a concern about the amount of $ we gave them last year. $30...She didn't think it was enough. My thought is we are not their employers so they should not expect a bonus from the PTO. However, we have bought them all a splendid gift this year, just not cash. Are we out of line?

We are having our luncheon tomorrow in the library, and that is where I decorate every year. This year, our colors are white, silver, and blue. I wanted to do something different this year instead of the usual green and red. We made the centerpieces, we decorate the tables and have decorations hanging from the ceiling. If I could, I'd decorate the entire library to make it look like a winter wonderland.

I am concerned with volunteer appreciation at my school. From the person in my position last year (volunteer coordinator), I understand that the school did nothing. Yet in my position I'm expected to always be begging for volunteers to provide this, that, and the other thing for various staff appreciation events.

For the holidays, we decorate our entire school. Tree in the lobby, greens with bows around the lobby and down the main hallways, tree in the cafeteria, wreath in the teachers lounge, snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. We go all out. We also do small teacher appreciation all year. I'd say about once a month we do something for them. Whether it's bagels for breakfast, or donuts and cider, we always make our presence known to the staff, and that we're working for them, as well as the students.

it was all gifts and food and was 25% of spending -

I asked a school board rep in the Thousand Oaks school district for help and they were unable to help with my question of what is allowed. No one could help change this outlandish spending.
