Default Family Support

In the community we are in we have come upon some very hard times. Factories are closing, education is being pushed to the back, crimes seem to be up and affecting everyone. In the last week we have endured news of at minimum 400+ jobs being cut.

I really feel I need to do something for these families in our school who are suffering. I'm looking for helpful ideas for resources anyone has for Parent Education topics, orgainizations who might help some of them out, or any advice you might have. Many of our families don't have access to a computer. Has anyone dealt with something like this? I just feel I need to switch priorities and reach out to these families who need it most.

Thank you!
~Patti

You might do some research about the community resources in your area and write a newsletter outlining what job training, career workshops and stuff like that are out there.

You might contact the director of community and continuing education and express a need for certain classes to help people who are looking for work. Basic computer skills, resume writing, etc.

Perhaps a free workshop at the school for anyone to come for help writing a resume, learning how to search on career builder and the local employment databases. Some other parents might even be able to run this without a government agency's help.
