Hi All -

Do you have 5 minutes to take a quick survey?

Trying to do some research on what kids and schools are doing now and how you'd like those things to change.

Here's the link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=975102461486

Thanks in advance.

Tim

done Tim! I think the biggest factor at our school is that more and more time is being needed to get ready for all of those state mandated tests, in March alone three weeks have testing in them. There gets less and less time for gym or for anything "extra"...I know the test are important but really wonder why so many! time is a HUGE Factor!

Tim,
I completed the survey today. I was excited to see this issue being confronted. Our school has cut the PE program to two weeks per semester per class. They alternate weeks of specials. In my day PE was not a special it was a requirement. This year I am a new President and I am trying to get an 8 week Fun Run program started. Wish me luck!!

Markids- how are you planning on doing an 8 week Fun Run? Just curious. Sounds interesting especially since they have cut your PE classes. In most states I thought that they were upping the class time for PE...

Tim - survey's done, Sir.

Done deal! It's good to see some interest in this. When will you be sharing the results with us?

Tim,
My plan is to have the PE teacher involved and some real enthusiatic parents to help set up a mile course around the school. These fun runs would take place on a Friday after school and they would start out on the field. Each grade would have a volunteer with a clip board that has the list of students where they check-in. The K-2nd grades will start first and only run 1/2 mile course. Volunteers will be sprinkled through out the course to cheer on the kids and any parents or siblings that would like to run also. At the end of the course will be 2 volunteers calling out times as the stundent cross the finish line. At the end of the eight weeks each student that participated in 5 or more fun runs will get a prize (still working on that one) and a printed sheet of the progress they made over the eight weeks. I am hoping this works and we can work out any kinks that come along the way. The goal is to promote physical activity and community.

Markids -

Quick tip: as a registered poster, you can edit your own pots. The little icon at the top of your post (with the pencil and paper) is the "edit post" button.

librarymom-- we're hoping to use the results in some outreach we're doing this fall.

Tim
