Has anyone ever painted metal playground equipment?

Our schools playground needs help however the school building is very old and the school district wants to build a new school. So I was trying to spruce up the playground for the kids and I was wondering if we can just paint that old equipment and make it fun for the next few years.

Any ideas???

I've never painted metal playground equipment but I have painted other metal objects like lawn furniture and shepherd's hooks. You need to get a paint that is formulated for metal and for outdoor wear. You'll probably need to clean and sand the surface and maybe even prime it.

I wonder if any of the playground companies' websites would have info on repainting?

Our janitors repainted using regular paint.

DO NOT DO THIS!!! My kids came home a couple weeks after he painted with silver paint all over their pants! Fortunately this was over the summer and I hope he got it fixed before school started. I havent' heard of any other issues.

But, what I can recommend is this.
1. Check with a local car painting facility. They may donate a little car paint. Perfect because it is weather resistant and nice and shiny.

2. Contact any playground equip. seller. They have touch up paint they sell and I am sure if you had to you could just order some paint from them.

Hope these help.
Julie
