Lightbulb PTO board not following bylaws

When the board does not follow the organizations bylaws what steps do you take to make them follow them? Do you speak to the principal, administration?
I have been attending our PTO meeting for the past 5 months and the group as a whole does not follow the by laws. When I bring that up they say that we are not run like a business, we are not a business.
After this past months fiasco of a meeting where the agenda stated nothing about revising the by-laws but we spent 20 minutes doing that, then the President decides to vote for officers during the middle of the meeting because some people have to leave early. No one said anything! The members just voted as did the principal. Now I am the bad guy because I think we should abide by the by-laws.
What to do next?
Thanks for any help you can give me here.

Default Re: PTO board not following bylaws

Do you have a copy of the by-laws? Are you a 501 c 3 organization? Is the group incorporated? And, did you get elected as an officer for next year?

The by-laws and constitution are your organizing documents. There should be rules in there on how to ammend the document - failure to follow these rules is a violation. As a non-profit or an incorporated group, the group could be placing it's status in jeopoardy.

If they won't listen to you as an individual and refuse to recognize their organizational documents it's time for some action. You can't go to the principal or other adminstration . . .it's time to go to other parents. Find those people who used to be involved, who helped keep this organization running for years, it's time to play the game. The president can't shut you up when you have many others behind you.

You guys need an intervention!
