Default Bylaws

We are currently rewriting our bylaws, the originals were lost. When we presented the changes, we were challeged by the term "parent", so we went back and worth on how to write the definition. Basically our group does not want to exclude non-biological parents. We want the step-parents, grandparents, extended family if they are willing to join and be active. How did you write your bylaws to include them?
