Talking Dancing with the Teachers

We just put on a very successful Dancing with the Teachers event. We surveyed the teachers to see who wanted to participate and what type of dances they wanted to learn. We brought in a professional instructor to the school once a week for 4 weeks, and offered 3 types of dance: salsa, cha cha cha or waltz, or the performer could do their own dance (we have two contestants perform swing). The teachers found their own partners, some were husbands, one was a student, one was a former student.

Judges consisted of 3 pta members and 3 fifth grade students. After each contestant danced, we had each judge give a little comment and their score.

We had vote cards given out to each audience member. After the contestants performed (there were 5), we have two semi-professional fifth graders who performed their magic, while the audience voted. Then we collected the cards during a third performance, and our principal handed out the trophy to the winner.

We are told it was the most well-received, sold out, standing room only event they can remember having.

That sounds like so much fun. I don't know if our teachers would be willing to do something like that.
