I'll take a slice of that cake.

Peace and quiet! Baby is FINALLY getting a nap! Only for a few hours cause they will be out early due to the heat.

Of course neither of the girls remembered to get into the breakfast line and turn in their lunch money. Welcome back!!

Hey volunteer, enjoy those few moments of silence.

You know at the end of last year our school district started an online system to pay for meals. I love it! No more checks to write, no more worrying about whether they get to school and on the right account, and no more of my son forgetting to bring home his low balance slips. I can just go to the accounts and see how much is there.

" ... like worn rug hap-hazzardly tossed over the chiped paint of the front porch railing she sighs and thinks to herself '... one more week before school starts ... one more week' ."

Our school has the on-line viewing of lunch funds along with medical records, lunch menu & nutrition info, emergancy contact info etc ... really a nice convienience. Can't tell you how many times my kids have forgotten to tell me the account was out before this option.

Any good books out there? I finished my summer stash and haven't had time to read book reviews lately.

Horrendous thunder storm started 30 minutes before school let out, so I race from work(which is 30 minutes from home) across town to save my children from being drowned or struck by the giant bolts of lightening. I get drenched getting to my car, dodge fallen trees while I shiver from being wet, try to find a place to park that doesn't have a foot of water rushing through it and as the bell rings, the sun comes out!

Since all the back to school work started(spirit wear, district reading program), I haven't had time for novels. I've been reading magazines. I found one I really like: Real Simple. Good articles, yummy recipes. I'm scheduled for a surgery in October that will have me down for 6 weeks, so I'll need some reading ideas for then so I have something to do besides work on our photo albums and watch HGTV.

Okay-all day I have these 4 little boys running around and by definition they argue...get to rough and too loud, so tonight I tell them ALL they are going with Daddy and #3 to football practice. Dad says "did we coordinate this...did I know I was taking all four"...I said what is the diff to you; you coach and they play on the playground all day. Do folks not think that you need a break from the fussing just to keep your sanity. I mean there's tons of good time as well.....Last night #3 is outside with dad and I grilling. Dad wasn't in the best mood and so #3 starts to head indoors.
Dad: "#3--take in the blanket with you"
#3: "but it's not MY blanket"
Dad: (raising his voice to what I would call an anrgy voice)
"Get over here and take this blanket in NOW"
#3: walking toward dad says gently "And dad explains why..."

I cracked up--I would have explained why and caused #3 to realize it was the right thing to do but Dad of course was not in the mood. Too funny the insight these little guys have....

Our school system has the online lunch account to view only. And that is for middle and high school. The elementary assigns numbers and the kids keep this number every year. Oldest daughter is in 3rd and youngest is in 1st. Youngest has heard her sisters number for so many years that when she goes through line she tends to use sister's number.

Son has a pretty easy number. His is 1215...he says he remembers it because "it's lunch time!" So true!!

d - that's too funny. Hubby missed his cue. The right answer is, "Yeah, I get to take all of you. What fun! And afterwards, we're going to hit a drive through and bring dinner home so Mom doesn't have to cook."

So, my college career is off to a blazing start:

I had five assignments due by midnight last night for my online English course. I got a 10/10, a 5/5, a 7/7 a 0/5 and a 0/10. What? Two zeros? How did that happen? Oh, one assignment was on the printed syllabus but not in the online Week 1 folder. One assignment due date was changed to Tuesday but the computer still saw it as incomplete and assigned a zero. Aye yi yi. It seems I'm going to learn a lot in college and most of it isn't going to be from the textbooks!

In Music Appreciation I was the only one who read the assigned chapter and, therefore, was the only one able to carry on an informed conversation with the instructor. So now I look like the class suck-up/smarty pants. That along with being twice as old and any other student is not doing much for my popularity. Oh well, I guess I won't get invited to any frat parties...

Darn CC, and I'll bet you had your beer bong all polished up too!!

Seriously, I admire anyone who heads back to school after years away. Just getting back into the habit of studying would get me.

All this talk of higher education is giving me nightmares. I keep having dreams about exams, papers due, being late for class etc. Syllabus will get you every time CC - kinda like getting a paper in front of you with the last instructions as not to put your name on the paper ... ah good times.
Steamy here today, a good day to sit by the pool for a few hours with a book. Kids are quite concerned about lunch today ... they opened the fridge to find milk, eggs, juice, carrots, potatoes and a whole lot of nothing. I of course see great brunch fixings but something tells me thats not going to fly with them.
