PTO Lightbulb Joke
We did this a long time ago (like maybe 2001 or so)... thought it might be fun to try it again for 2007.
How many PTOers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Best answer (I'm the all-knowing, all-powerful judge on this one...) gets a free personal sub to PTO Today magazine. We'll give it a couple of weeks.
If you're not familiar with the format, I'll give you one of my favorites: How many Notre Dame grads does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Answer: Eight. One to screw it in. And seven to stand around reminiscing about how great it was when the one guy screwed in the lightbulb.
So... whaddaya got?

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
Well the number can vary based on who could make it to the light bulb changing committee meeting. There will inevitably be some really great reasons why only 5 or 6 can make it. It will of course never be the *same* 5 or 6 so the list of old business items will perpetually grow as no closure on light bulb changing will be realized. Assuming the committee eventually brings light bulb changing recommendations forward to the Board (probably in late April), you will need a quorum to actually vote on changing the light bulb. If this resolution passes and funds are allocated in a timely manner for the purchase of the light bulb, it will take only one person to change it. This will most likely be the president because some one has to do it!

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
At least 3 (it is a nonprofit after all- most require 3 board members minimum)
- to recieve call, form comittee, and get (err railroad volunteer)
- to get approved in budget purchase or better yet lightbulb and ladder donated
- to find school staff to help with ladder and then to change lightbulb
While 15 stand around wondering what the other 3 and their lightbulb clique is all about

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
And of course you always have the principal there looking over your shoulder trying to see if it is a fundraiser, and if it is something the school should do. Then you have those couple of teachers standing around complaining that they don't get to teach anymore because of outside activities. And don't forget those teachers who are standing there holding out their hand for money. Plus you always have that member who is there to analyze and critique every single thing, and of course they could do it better and for less money, this all being said while they are sitting monitoring the caller id and not answering when we call for volunteers. And then there are the board members who say that isn't my job.
Then you have the little child walking by and saying "Hey Mrs. K" or your child waving and saying Hey mom, when you finally grab the ladder, and do it yourself, cause it is all for the kids after all.
So let's add that up---9, I think was my official count.
Was this supposed to be a positive thing?

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
Tim--you know the answer to this...
It only takes one...and the difference that light will make to the hundreds of children it reaches is worth all the effort it takes and will definitely brighten the world...one child at a time.

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
One. Lightbulbs are a safety concern covered by the district safety policy. To avoid long meetings and tabled discussions one parent covertly sneaks into the school and replaces the bulb. At the next meeting PTO board memebers put on the agenda 'light bulb discussion' to which the covert parent says "it must have fixed itself - its working again - what's next on the agenda?"

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
okay...how about hundreds!!!!
1-This problem has never occured before so there is no event binder on how to run this event. So it gets tabled until more research can be done on how to do this effectively and efficently.
2-We decide that we let the president research so she goes to the PTO Today discussion forum and ask for advice from other groups. Shawn, critter, jhb, crewchief, silver fox, my kids mom, and so many hundred more send their advice.
3-President takes all of that great advice back to the table the next month to discuss the options that her group can take, they agree on three choices to vote on and will take the vote next month.
4-Meanwhile the school gets tired of waiting and puts in a work order for the district to do it, our know it all mom says "I knew we should have done it that way, that is the way it was always done"
5-So much for effective and efficient...I am so glad we don't work that way! Oh by the way the president goes back to the PTO Today forum and thanks everyone for their input!
Okay so I have been snowed in for three days with no end in sight!!

Re: PTO Lightbulb Joke
I'll abstain since I'm one of the "veterans" still around from when this was done the first time. But I'm so glad you brought it back. These little games were a lot of fun! After everyone is done, I hope you post some of the orginal set.
