Kyrock Elementary parent leaders coordinated an outdoor block party to kick off the year and spread the word about their group. Besides free food (hot dogs, drinks, and popcorn), there were information tables for community groups and the PTO, music and prize announcements courtesy of a local radio station, and diversions for the kids—face-painting, an inflatable slide, even fire trucks. “I think it did exactly what we wanted it to,” says PTO leader Chaundra Vincent. “People felt appreciated, they had a great time, and they will see that the PTO does great, fun things.”
