If so, you're not alone. I know it can be frustrating, but to my way of thinking, that pain is often self-inflicted.
Ask yourself a few questions: What impression does your communication with parents send? Is it high quality and well-written? Are you using professional-looking emails? If your events aren't drawing in the masses, take a critical look at them yourself. Are they exciting? Are they truly fun and the right fit for your families? Are they marketed well?
If you'd like to change the reputation of your group and your events, the first thing you have to do is actually change your group and your events. Act like the fun group that you want to be.
