My Tip of the Week: How Do Your PTO Flyers and Newsletters Look?

Here's a question for you as you continue to line up volunteers for this coming school year: What kind of impression are your communications making?

Answering honestly, are they stuffy and/or boring? Or do they make your group more attractive to potential volunteers and supporters? While we like to think that our good work and good intentions are enough, lots of times how we market ourselves makes a huge difference in the number and types of volunteers we attract.

With that in mind, here are three tips:

1. The role of PTO art director -- someone to polish up your newsletters and flyers -- is a great job for a talented volunteer who perhaps can't make it to school all that often. Find a taker for that job.

2. We have a ton of great (free!) graphics in our Clip Art Gallery. Feel free to use.

3. “Communication Tips for Better Involvement” is also a great primer on connecting with your audience of parents and potential volunteers.
