My Tip of the Week: Beware of Fundraising Fatigue

The easiest way to struggle with your fundraising is to become known as a “fundraising group.” And the easiest way to get that name is to earn it.

If you’re always asking parents to pay, buy, help, donate, clip, and register -- then you are likely earning a reputation as a fundraising-only group. And ironically, that’s a killer for your fundraising success.

The key is to make sure that your most prominent and most frequent messages and efforts are about all that you do for the kids and the school and families, like how the kids are benefiting from the smartboards you funded or the great family fun event you host every April.

This is easily the biggest mistake PTOs and PTAs make year over year. Yes -- fundraise. But choose fewer fundraisers and run those that you do choose more effectively. And get back as quickly as you can to all the great work that you’re really about.
