A Principal on PTOs
February 21st, 2008 by tsullivanWe have an interloper in our midst!
Just kidding… but we do have a principal who’s posted a really interesting question and perspective on our message boards. His question: how can a principal who really supports his parent group also make sure that the parent group really supports him?
Hope you’ll add your two cents…

Ask for the PTO for their support. Be specific about what you are requesting (votes in a specific direction, representation numbers at a meeting, written support / interviews, open support with faculty / student body, etc.).
If there is an issue or question about support (or lack thereof), talk about it and discuss the consequences of the situation (i.e. undermining goals makes goals difficult to achieve).
If the principals motives / goals / methods are understood clearly, they will be more easily and more readily endorsed, supported, and promoted.
Not sure if this is on topic but these are my initial thoughts.
