Sadly, I think we’re in one of those up-cycles now. (Guess we should call it a down-cycle.

The four in Massachusetts have been going on for a while — some of the alleged misdeeds date back to 2003. I wonder how the principals figured it out — it can be a lot of work to dig through the financial records and correlate all the receipts. I’m also surprised that the school committee in New Bedford thinks it can regulate the PTOs (requiring two signatures and monthly financial statements). If the members themselves aren’t asking for this, then are the members going to review the statements? If you trust your treasurer, then you’re probably not going to be a nuisance and ask about a payment to some vendor. If you don’t trust your treasurer, you’ve got big problems…
