In a nutshell, a needed distinction has been made between school funds and school events and parent group funds and parent group events. Parent groups aren’t required to be 501(c)(3)s and funds are not required to be run through the district. Financial best practices still encouraged. Nice.

Sorry I don't know all the details on this issue but this I do know, PTA money has been and should be separate from the school district. Absolutely the money raised should be used for the children and youth.

Hooray! We all need to be aware that a PTA is not an entity of the school system but is a financially independent organization which advocates, including with $$$, for the best interests of children. Funds raised by PTAs should go to improve the lives of children and youth; this may involve parenting classes, parents learning how to be involved in their child's education and how to make their voices heard on behalf of children in the places where decisions affecting their children will be made. Playground equipment nor items for the teachers lounges are not at the top of the list.
