To give ones time, without pay, nor name in highlights is a true committment to stepping up to the task. Attending a PTA meeting when you'd rather be sitting in your easy chair watching your TV is giving. Putting in time to run an event, sit on a board, or address envelopes with flyers or meeting agenda is giving. Never before have our schools needed the involved parent. The days of sending your child off to school and holding bake sales are long gone. Our educational systems are broken. The government money being thrown into the schools is like shovelling sand against the tide, it just isn't getting anywhere. The schools, administration & teachers are not turning out the caliber of students they once did. That is not to blame them alone. The parents of the children attending school are not like you see on Leave It To Beaver or Father Knows Best shows. The students come to school with more problems than they did before. Parents need to know what is working in our schools and what is causing them not to. They need to roll up their sleeves and pitch in. Hold the appropriate stakeholders accountable. Take to task what needs to be done, and see it through. Wake up America, our future is at stake as these are the citizens of tomorrow.
