Election Day Bake Sales and Other Fundraisers

Some school parent groups make a nice profit on Election Day by offering hungry (and harried) voters something to eat.

Election Day bake sales have become popular at schools that serve as polling sites, allowing people to buy cookies or cupcakes after casting their votes. There’s still time to plan a bake sale at your school. Get started fast by customizing our bake sale flyer below.

Or, use our clip art to create your own promotion and get the word out to your school community and the larger community.

In many communities, civic, church, and school groups serve up an evening meal on Election Day. The St. John Lutheran School PTL in Defiance, Ohio, organizes a sauerkraut supper that includes sausage, pork, and pies. And in 2015, the Ingomar Elementary PTO in Pittsburgh, Pa., arranged for food trucks to park outside the school during an election.

Some groups take a different approach, planning a restaurant fundraiser on the evening of an election. Flyers advertising the fundraisers encourage families to order pizza or another meal to go and take it home to eat while watching election returns. That’s something any parent group can do, whether or not its school is used as a polling place.
