Forged Permission Slips

If my child forged a permission slip and attended an non-school sponsered event and was hurt do I have any liability?

I'm confused by the "non-school sponsored event." How can a school field trip be non-school sponsored? I doubt anyone could answer correctly without full details. Sorry, not any help. :-(
