Q&A

On-line Student Directory

Has anyone used an on-line student directory. We have an opt-in form to create the directory. The school is going green and hesitant to print the directory. Has anyone experienced problems having the directory available on-line?

Personally I would not want my child's information in an online directory. We had an FBI officer who is part of a child predator task force come speak to parents at our church. It was amazing how much information they could receive about a child by compiling data from different sources. As much as I love having informaiton at my fingertips I guess I would prefer to err on the side of caution.

Our PTO went through this exact same issue. We wanted ability to have secure website (require login), then secure personal info within the website as well (hide various personal info). We ended going with some software from MJS Software. They had the most secure system than anything else we could find. Our group also got a website out of it, so that was pretty cool. I think they're coming out with a new version in a month or two, but they had everything we wanted (ability to secure website as well as secure personal info by field). I hope it helps!

In an effort to go green, our elementary school went through the process this year of publishing an online school directory. As the directory administrator, I evaluated a few different software offerings and settled upon one offered by Directory Burst (www.directoryburst.com). Security was a concern, and I liked how Directory Burst requires each parent to use a unique login and password for access. So far, it's been going great!

There is company in California Bay Area called Fourleaf. Makes a great online student directory to replace the printed ones. Fast, very secure (they take security very seriously) and works on any devise (desktop, tablet, mobile phone). Does have advertising. Allows for Google-like one box searches, directory views by class, or school (which can be printed if you still want), tap to dial, text, email or map address. can be found at fourleaf.cl

Security should always be a primary concern for parents. When parent organizations in my district (Rye, NY) wanted to go mobile we went with SchoolBee. It was actually built by parents in Rye and is now being picked up by parent organizations around the country. Check it out: www.schoolbee.com

Helping your students is really important , I can tell you a little bit about my experience using compliance training solution together with https://www.ispringsolutions.com/solutions/compliance-training I could ombine PDF guides, SCORM packages, tests, and ILT sessions into courses and organize multiple courses into a long-term curriculum. Restrict the order of training materials if necessary and set up due dates for completing a compliance program nowadays it is very difficult to find an option that will help absolutely all students, so maybe you should try it online.
